Montreal, March 12, 2025 – The English Language Arts Network (ELAN) is proud to announce the launch of the Trellis Micro-grants (TMG) project, a new initiative funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Official Languages Support Programs, to bolster artistic, cultural and heritage programs and to build bridges between Quebec’s English-speaking minority and Francophone majority (across Quebec).
With TMG, ELAN acts as third party to support the distribution of $1,212,000 in micro-grants over the 2024-2028 funding period. This initiative is unique in that the application was designed to be a more accessible source of funding for both arts organizations and artists, and particularly marginalized and emerging artists, in a time when access to funding is essential to the livelihood of much of the arts community. Moreover, ELAN’s transparent, three-tiered, arm’s length, blind-adjudication process, ensures that funding is distributed not only based on project guidelines, but also based on knowledge of the artistic milieu and community needs.
As project Manager, Deborah Forde, puts it, “With micro-grants, the government is allowing us to employ international development tactics to ignite and sustain new growth here at home. Projects presented were so incredibly rich in scope and reach, that I don’t know how our juries made such hard decisions. I am excited about the varied and various selected work that we will all soon get to engage with.”
